Some key points to remember!
Before you start ensure you are comfortable. You may be in this position for a good period of time!
Have your baby in good alignment. Their ear, shoulder and hip in one line, their tummy to you.
Avoid holding your baby at the back of the head. They need to be able to move their head back to get a deep latch.
Support their feet, they do not like their little legs or feet to dangle.
Get your baby as close to you as possible.
There are lots of different positions you can use. You will find ones you and your baby prefer.
Attachment.
Once in position, line your baby’s nose up with your nipple.
Stroking your nipple on the baby’s top lip encourages them to open their mouth. Expressing some colostrum onto the nipple can help.
Wait for your baby to open their mouth. This part requires patience!
Once they open wide, get baby to lead into the breast with their chin, then the upper part of the mouth will go up and over to get a nice deep latch.
