FAQs

What areas do you cover?

I am based in Dungarvan, Co Waterford. I can cover all of Waterford, and parts of South Tipperary and East Cork. If you are unsure, you can contact me through the website here.

What is an IBCLc?

An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant provides breastfeeding support and research based information. All IBCLCs have passed an exam and must take part in continuous education to retain their qualification. I also ensure I keep up-to-date with the latest research and developments by attending study days and conferences.

When should I consider seeing an IBCLC?

Getting specialist help early on in your breastfeeding journey can help prevent unwanted situations and problems escalating.

What issues can you help with?

Difficulties latching your baby
Sore/flat/inverted nipples
Milk supply concerns/slow weight gain
Engorgement/mastitis
Weaning

Can I claim money back through my private health insurance?

Some private health care insurers will partially cover the fee for a consultation. Please consult your individual insurer about this.

What does a Consultation involve?

During a consultation we will have a discussion about your breastfeeding journey so far. I will ask for some health information about you and your baby. Ideally, I will observe a feed during the consultation. A consult can take an hour, to an hour and a half, depending on your individual needs. Some issues will take time to resolve, or improve, and advice/plans may be altered  based on the evolving situation.
